Aadhaar and bank seeding: an NPCI mapper status guide for DBT
For any benefit paid by Direct Benefit Transfer, the money follows the Aadhaar-bank mapping at NPCI, not the account you were told about. Here is how to check it.
Seeding is not the same as linking
Linking an Aadhaar to a bank account is a KYC step. Seeding is the extra step where the bank pushes that mapping to the NPCI mapper so DBT payments route there. A customer can have Aadhaar linked at three banks but only one, or none, seeded as the active DBT destination.
The NPCI status check tells you which bank is currently the DBT recipient for an Aadhaar, and whether the mapping is active.
Why payments seem to disappear
When a beneficiary complains a subsidy did not arrive, the usual cause is that seeding moved to an account they forgot about, or an old account that is now dormant. The NPCI check surfaces this instantly, turning a multi-week branch investigation into a one-minute answer.
Advise the beneficiary to seed the account they actually use, at that bank, and to confirm it became the active mapping.
Consent and scope
This check touches financial-inclusion data. Run it only for a beneficiary you are actually paying or supporting, with their consent captured, and only to resolve a payment issue, not to enumerate a person's banking relationships.
