The principal place of business on a GSTIN is a verified address you can use for risk assessment and place-of-supply decisions.
What you get
The GSTIN lookup returns the principal place of business and often additional places. This is an address the tax authority has on record, which is a stronger signal than a self-declared address on a form.
Risk uses
A principal place that is a known virtual-office address, or that does not match the state the vendor claims to operate from, is a prompt for extra diligence. It does not automatically mean fraud, but it changes the questions you ask.
